Our project focuses on the safeguarding of local traditions and folklore, such as religious rites, popular legends and evocative landscapes surrounding the Abbey of Barsento in Noci (Bari), giving value to the tangible and intangible cultural heritage, consisting in local traditions and folklore.

The goals, strictly linked to our project, are:

•       Creating original educational content to offer to visitors, with particular regard to young groups' needs and to make them aware of the local cultural and environmental heritage;

•       Increasing the visitors' number:  the challenge is inserting Noci in an already existing touristic network nearby Alberobello, Castellana Grotte, Putignano, Gioia del Colle, the archaeologic park of Monte Sannace. Besides, at the same time, we would enjoy to involve local stakeholders and create an economical movement, in favour of regional professionals;

•       Developing sustainable tourism, creating a virtuous movement of sharing knowledge.

In order to achieve those goals, wel:

•       Collected information regarding local history, popular traditions, legends, linked to Barsento;

•       Created digital content in the form of “digital ghosts”, i.e. short videos in which characters from the past will tell stories and anecdotes about the site. In addition, we aim to attract especially children, providing a didactical and sensorial experience, alternative to traditional classroom methods, through digital ghosts, which we are planning to implement time after time with the funds: the idea is teaching with funny and extremely captivating technologies;

•       Run a promotional and crowdfunding campaign, in order to obtain the necessary funds for the full realization of the project;

•       Involved stakeholders and local authorities, so that they can create visibility to the project and convey the necessary resources both for its realization and, consequently, for the well-being of the local commercial activities;

•       In CoVID-19 months, we took advantage for contacting the institutional local authorities, such as Noci’s mayor, Mr. Domenico Nisi.

Moreover, Barsento's Abbey, that tradition dates back to the 6th century, was a local pilgrimage destination, on May and September 8th, in honor of the Virgin Mary, whom it is dedicated to. We would emphasize the abbey's uniqueness, since it represents the coexistence of two traditionally opposite themes both characteristic of our culture: sacred and pagan. We really want to try making it as central as in previous centuries.
